Carolyn and Malta

We were in Malta and my mother said that when the war first started the Italians came over but their aim wasn't very good, they just dropped a few bombs, but they had just three planes called faith, hope and charity. When the Germans came over she counted 30 aeroplanes at a time coming over to really do damage.

I remember those. We used to be transported on fairly small ships and we used to stop at Malta mainly for water. The islanders had a terrible time, but they made us troops very welcome. We were always allowed shore leave in Malta. Once I had a banana there, a real treat.
