I have a very old pressure cooker - but it does work - and spinning tops, steam engine. George has a lantern. I have a crystal radio set but it didn't work very well. I have a peashooter at home and a cigarette lighter that I made.
We used to make pop guns when we were children A length of elder, score the pith out, get a bit of nut wood, carve it off and make a handle, put an acorn in the top, hold the gun against you and fire it and it really would go. We also had catapults.
There were about 6 of us lads playing in the wood when some home guard soldiers went by and they were told to camouflage themselves in the wood. We were watching them in the trees when my brother got an acorn and hit a couple of the soldiers in the rear and then we quickly ran away.
