Sustainability
We take sustainability seriously at St Luke’s! Our Sustainability Team takes a pro-active approach to tackling the issues of climate change and sustainability, helping guide our response as a church, as a community and individually as part of our God-given responsibility to care for our world and for the those most effected by these issues.
St Luke’s recently attained the Bronze award of A Rocha’s EcoChurch Sustainabilty Scheme, which assessed our commitment to sustainability through our buildings, worship, community engagement and lifestyle. We are now working towards the Silver award.
As part of St Albans’ Sustainability Festival, St Luke’s held an Upcycle & Repair Fair. This was a great success involving many local community groups and showcasing everything from upcycled furniture to bicycle and jewellery repairs. Plans are in place for another fair next year.
We have produced our own Eco-Checklist, which contains helpful information and tips to reduce our carbon footprint as individuals:

St Luke’s participated in The Big Church Switch where we changed to 100% renewable electricity, mainly solar & wind. We’ll seek to do the same for gas when our contract comes up for renewal.
