Spring/Summer 2023 update from the Halseys
Dear wonderful friends at St Luke’s
A year ago, I had just retired from my Civil Service career and was about a month away from leaving you all and embarking on the ‘big move’ to Lee Abbey, neatly leaving the field clear for Alex!
St Luke’s made us a hugely generous gift, and I wanted - belatedly - to share with you (below) a picture of the Summer House you have enabled us to create here at our ‘hideaway’ cottage near Minehead, which it is so good for us to spend time in on our days off!
A lot has happened over the last year – in politics and for the Royal Family, and of course for St Luke’s, which it is so good to see cropping up on my Facebook feed.
And for us there have been changes too, Hugh returning from his gap year in Canada and starting in Durham; Giles getting used to life as a Boarder in the 6th form; and of course Celia and I getting stuck into things here at Lee Abbey.
I am the business manager (which as well as finance, seems to involve marketing, computers and corralling building projects) alongside which I continue to offer ordained ministry, and a somewhat increased presence on Facebook. One of my first acts – on which work proceeds (if slower than one might like) – was to start looking into what we could do with Solar energy.
Celia is styled deputy operations manager, which means she has fingers in many pies to help keep the place functioning well to everyone’s benefit.
It’s a hugely enriching, formative and stretching, place to be, and we are enjoying it.
I’m very conscious of how much I am drawing on what you all enabled me to learn, become and do at St Luke’s – so thank you all for your vital part in our journey.
And do consider coming – as individuals, families, or as a group of any size – and making use of the various discounts/bursaries available - we’d love to see you!
Every blessing to you all
David
